Tips on how to handle social media failure

There’s an excellent SmartBrief post out on how to avoid social media slipups. Read the whole post, but here are the highlights as I see them. They come from a panel discussion at the BlogWorld and New Media Expo.
*Think prevention! Have trusted people in charge of your social media accounts, and make sure they use separate accounts and Twitter clients for their work vs. personal posts.
*Honesty is the best policy. Don’t craft elaborate fake-fan campaigns or flattering fiction. It’s usually detected and always backfires.
*Don’t bury your head in the sand if you mess up. If you make a mistake, go out and admit it right away, apologize and share what you learned.
*Try new things. Social media is still one big experiment. Try some new things and give them long enough to succeed - or fail. And when you fail, consider it a lesson in what to do next.
Good advice!

Nice post! I love your point about social media being an experiment. I try to always encourage people new to social media just to see what works for them and their organization!
