The evolution of the online donor

Network for Good turns ten tomorrow and in honor of our anniversary, I wanted to thank you and all the wonderful people and organizations who’ve been a part of harnessing technology for social good.  We appreciate you!

I also wanted to share how online donors have evolved over the past decade.  More people than ever are giving with technology - and key signs that online donations have gone mainstream are the prevalence of disaster relief gifts and the dropping average donations.  A lot has happened since 2001.  Please consider sharing this image with your networks - easy social media links are on my blog post.  Let’s celebrate our collective progress!

Congratulations on a great 10 years! Network for Good has played a huge role in leveraging technology to let “regular people” become donors and fundraisers.

I love the graphic. Another sign of change: Four years ago at Children’s National Medical Center, a donor told us on Dec 30 that his donation was not going through properly.  It turned out he was trying to make a $10,000 gift, and our default maximum was $5,000. We quickly fixed that. Last week, we received our first online gift of $20,000. That would have been unthinkable in 2001.

Nowadays more and more people are using Facebook, Twitter and blogs to get the word out about causes they care about. This year we’ve seen people overthrow dictators using social media.
Congratulations for this article!
