The backwards move that will kill your marketing… and how to avoid it

I get asked the following questions all the time:
Should I do Twitter? Should I invest in PSAs? Should I redesign my website? Do I need rebranding?
And I always answer the same way: I don’t know, it depends.
It depends on:
1. Who is your audience
2. What you want them to do
3. Where they are/where their attention is focused
Don’t ask questions about tactics till you have strategy. That’s backwards. It will really mess up your marketing efforts.
PS: A nice post on this topic related to social media is here: “There is no social media toolkit.”

Social media is a mistery for me still. It makes sense to me only to be present there and see what happens. Investing too much time there doesn’t have to give any results so it is too risky to focus on social media.
I use social media (mainly twitter) to surround myself with professionals in my field and source relevant content. It’s been invaluable so far ... I love it.
