Making it easy for volunteers and staff

Here’s a great comment to my post yesterday.  Listen to this story from Chas Grundy:

For our summer camp, we struggle each year to find staff. Last year, we ran with a skeleton crew, barely enough to handle the number of campers.

This year, we have a full staff. The difference? Online job applications. In the past, they had to request an application, then fill it out and mail it back. This year, they can just apply online. We’ve already had three times as many applicants as we have positions.

Convenience goes a LONG way. Promote your organization all you want, but success relies on a call to action and an easy way to act.

I could not agree more.  Are you making it easy for people to work for you or volunteer for you?  If you don’t already, do this one thing:
Register your volunteer opportunities on an aggregator’s site, so people can find you easily and sign up quickly
.  Check out VolunteerMatch or Idealist, for example.  When you post an opportunity on these sites, you’ll also appear on the White House volunteerism site, USA Freedom Corps, because it draws from aggregators like these.

You are totally right! Making it easy for people to sign-up for volunteer opportunities or for any other matter is a great way to increase the chances they will actually do so.

Just now are we seeing true action from Volunteer-based Organizations to reach out in an easy and comfortable way for people to get themselves signed up.

I’m sure many people, just like me, would not pursue to inquire more information or to get registered at some organizations because of the perceived trouble it is...and sometimes it is!
