Feedback is the breakfast of champions

I wish I’d said, “Feedback is the breakfast of champions,” but I didn’t.  It was Ken Blanchard.  It’s a great soundbite summarizing three things that are incredibly important yet incredibly hard.

1. Listening well.
2. Accepting feedback.
3. Evolving accordingly.

I guess that’s why feedback is the breakfast of champions.  Like eating your Wheaties, it’s healthy—to know what you can do better. As a perfectionist, I find it painful at times, but tough news trumps hollow praise when it comes to personal growth.  This also holds true for relationship building, organizational growth and donor relations.  Ask for feedback.  It makes you stronger.

A simple soundbite, but you’re bang on point. Feedback is always hard to listen to, assuming you’re talking about the ‘constructive’ kind!

Hi Katya. I’m new to your blog and am finding it to be a tremendous resource! I agree that listening to and acting on feedback is extremely important. Do you have suggestions for specific questions every nonprofit should be asking its supporters?

Hi Katya,

I agree with Sarah. Specific questions that a non profit should be asking is key to getting a more pointed answers. Some of our clients do donor surveys and that helps them a lot too. However, facebook can be more of a two way communication.
