Fake smells stronger online

Social media is about being social.  That means engaging in social media means acting like you’re in a social setting.  Remember: People are in this social setting to hang out, connect with each other and enjoy the company.

Going into a social media setting to blast your message and ask for money is like walking into a cocktail party with a megaphone and a collection plate.  It’s rude and it won’t work anyway.

Social media is about listening, enabling and engaging others.  Nonprofit marketing friends, it’s not about us - it’s about connecting to others.  That’s why we’ll give to a friend who asks but are unlikely to fan a stranger.

Violate these principles at your peril.  Faking it is bad news, because fake smells stronger online. A whiff of self promotion or slick inauthenticity will get sensed from afar - and send people running.  Set out to engage - really engage - or don’t set out at all.

That is very true to. Social media is very popular these days and we must do something in order to make things happen for all of us. It is a good avenue for selling and marketing but let us not make it too obvious.

Timely post/blog.  I often share what I learned a long time ago,  people dont care what you have and what you know until they know you care.

Whenever I receive a friends request I send a message to the person introducing myself and why I have connected to facebook.  I ask them about themselves and why they are on facebook.  It is amusingly amazing to me that 99% of them never respond to my message.  However, they send friends request to me.  Oh,  I also tell them that I enjoy dialogue.

I love your analogy of social media and walking into a party with a megaphone - I think of it as standing in the middle of town with a huge placard! If you stand in the right place saying the right things it’s great but mis-judge either and it’s a waste of time.

Unfortunately, it is the social media more and more aim here to make a profit, I do not personally used this because of that.
